The world's being run by Citizen F's "ilk", does that answer Mark's question?

No, Harriet Miers was put forward because she thought Bush was the smartest man she'd ever met*, thus proving to him that she had good judgement. Why do Fox watchers watch Fox? Because they know it's inane and want to discredit the media, or because it confirms to them that all their fears and prejudices and no-spin non-talking points are accurate and intelligent?

You do raise an interesting question though, because it is indeed hard to factor the loony female appointee with the highly qualified serious male appointees for SC. I can draw a connection though. Roberts was criticized for upholding the punishment for having a french fry on public transportation that barred food of a little girl. Alito is criticized for upholding the strip searching of a little girl. Miers is a little girl.

*I wish Republicans hadn't kept her from getting the straight up or down vote I seem to remember hearing that all of Bush's appointees deserve. Then in the hearings someone could have asked her who the second smartest person was.
